Donna - Crossfit Ironside AthleteAthlete Profile:
 Donna Green

Time spent at CrossFit Ironside: 1 year

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment over the past year at Ironside?
Donna: Probably coming back after my first class. I was so sore after my first workout and tried to talk myself out of coming back, but here I am a year later–and about 40 lbs lighter!

Over the last year, you’ve developed a real capacity to push yourself during a difficult workout. What inspires you to push through that mid-WOD grind?

Donna: Knowing that it is short and only a few rounds long. Plus having a great community at Ironside cheering us on during the workout and getting to put another chalk line on the floor after each round! Also, since graduate school my friends and I would always tell ourselves “Almost Done” with everything we did, even if it was just putting our name on a research paper we were getting ready to write, so this thought comes to mind whenever things get tough–another rep is a rep closer to being “almost done”.

In hindsight, is there any advice you would give to Donna Green a year ago?

Donna: To start taking diet choices more serious a bit earlier. I knew what I needed to do, I just did not want to do it. Once I changed things up in my diet it made a big difference.

Would you rather… do an hour of your daughter’s “common core” math homework or 100 wall balls?

Donna: I would rather do 100 wall balls and even a few rounds of burpees than deal with the Common Core Math homework!!

What’s your secret for keeping your hair looking great mid-WOD?

Donna: First- thank you…secondly–in the summer we all know that wherever you put the fan is where I will be standing to keep from getting too sweaty! As far as this time of year–don’t leave a pony tail in too long 🙂

Do you have any new goals for this next year?

Donna: One goal would be to move closer toward an unassisted pull up–just one! And to “jump” on the box–I “jumped” on the weights stacked up as high as the box but now I need to gear up to take on the box!

Amoury - Our Athletes - Crossfit IronsideAthlete Profile:
Amoury Hollins

Time spent at CrossFit Ironside: 1 year

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment over the past year at Ironside?
Amoury: Starting. Whatever your baseline, you will improve, but you’ve got to start. If you put in the work, the numbers and fitness will come; but first, you have to start.

In hindsight, is there any advice you would give to Amoury Hollins a year ago?
Amoury: Check your ego at the door and have fun. I worked out for years thinking I could do it alone. The coaching and community are vastly superior to anything you can do on your own.

amoury4What is your funniest or most embarrassing memory over the last year?
Amoury: Losing my grip while doing a thruster. The bar seemed to hoover in the air for an eternity. I couldn’t figure out what to do so I dropped and rolled (in a very ungraceful way).

Would you rather… lick Rich Froning’s sweaty armpit after doing double-Grace, or do 1000 burpees?

Amoury: I would do 10,000 burpees before licking anything. I may reconsider if Camille were substituted for Rich.

What song pumps you up when you hit that mid-WOD wall?
Amoury: Anything by Pitbull gets me pumped. Pitbull feels like a party. Jay-Z is also good.

amoury7If you could WOD with anyone – past, present, or future – who would you throw down with?
Amoury: I think Muhammad Ali in his prime would be my WOD choice. I think seeing the champ’s will to win would be fun. Competing with someone who has such mental fortitude would be cool.

Do you have any new goals for this next year?
Amoury: In 2015, I’d like to hit a muscle up. I just want to focus on getting more efficient and enjoying the process and results from Crossfit.
